Renting in Spain from Sixt

Hi,

I'm travelling to Spain next week (stop-over in Frankfurt and car with :203: ofc) and was wondering about renting from Sixt. A few questions came in to my mind:
- Is it common to get upgrade offer in Spain?
Why I'm asking is that basically there is no upgrades usually in Finland as there are mostly only the cars that have been booked and very rarely something bigger than what you've booked. Maybe I'll some day go around the airport and give you an overview what we usually have.. :P

- Selection in Madrid airport seems a bit strange.. they have Fxxx cars and after that it jumps directly to XDAR and XSAR. Any experiences from Pxxx or Lxxx cars in Spain? I've at least seen people sending in reports from Marbella so I was wondering if someone would know. 8)

Not related to Germany but if someone has some experiences, would be welcome!

Thanks in advance

Hey!

To answer your first question, Sixt gives you the posibility of choice upgrades (upsells) in Spain. Happened to me twice now, although I rejected twice aswell. I imagine they would also upgrade you if the booked class wasn't available, seeing how their renting policies are similar to the ones in Germany.

The second question is trickier, since quite frankly the car categories in Spain are a giant mess. For example the BMW 1 Series runs in Ixxx (Intermediate), which is utterly strange. The fact that you cannot book Pxxx or Lxxx in Madrid at the moment may be the result of a bottleneck in the fleet, those vehicles do exist in Spain, however due to the fact that they aren't very popular holiday cars and Sixt in Spain is mostly in the holiday rental car market, those cars may be a bit rarer, which would explain why they're not on offer right now - maybe someone else has a better insight on this? Unfortunately I can't give you a definite answer on this, only an assumption.

Anyways, have a good time there!

Hi,

Thanks Break for your assumptions/opinions, they were quite similar what I had already thought so it was good to get a confirmation someone is thinking between the same lines as I am =)

Ok, sounds good. I'm still wondering will they offer me an upsell if I have booked an FDAR and no Pxxx or Lxxx are available.. :p Well, doesn't hurt to ask as well I think, depending of course what they have available. And what kind of price they would be offering. :)

This is in fact the same thing in Finland, we have BMW 1 and MB A class in IDMR/IDAR. :p Because they are premium brands and cost more.. Tho, the weirdest thing is how Hertz in Finland has Volvo S80 in XDAR.. The model should be somehow "executive" but for the love of god, I don't understand how it would be considered as an X-class vehicle..

That sounds about right, as I said in the top. The strange thing is that now again there is an LDAR class bookable in the web page, but 900 euros for five days might be a bit too much for my budget.. But let's see.

I'll try to this time report the cars in Madrid when I arrive there. : :209:

Added some more text in the first quotation for it to be more clear

Many countries offer the BMW 1 series in Ixxx, somehow in sweden they offer 118 and 120 in Ixxx and 116 in CDMR which is a quite good thing due to the insignificant difference of the prices. If they guaranteed 118/120 in Germany I'd always book that.
How much do you pay for Fxxx in madrid?

I got a good price, 240 euros or something like that for five days. :) Looking at the price now, it's about 850 euros :D I have a gold card, so I get some discount, not too much tho anyway.

But I'm waiting eagerly, hopefully the people at :203: MAD will offer me some nice upsell.. :117:

Hi,

Just a quick note, seems I forgot to reply here about my trip. Trip was quite nice and got the upsell what I was looking for. They had Audi A4 for me at first but then the officer offered first Q5. Then he asked if I like BMW and I said yes. Then he offered an X3.. :) But as I've driven an X3 before, I was happy to take the Q5.

I asked for a larger sedan, but nothing was available. So I took the Q5 and have to say it was maybe a bit too much for Madrid.. :p I was struggling in one underground carpark for quite a while before I got it out from there =p

Selection there (as discussed above) was quite small, couple of pictures below.

One 7-series (730d.. took a look at it but don't remember anymore very well about the specs. Not very visible here tho :D Second car on the left side after the building )

(A4(?), A4(?), C-class, 5-series(?).. or is that a 3-series GT? )

Other than those, there were mainly small ones

But anyway, thanks to :203: MAD!

Edit:
Fixed links to the pictures and added clarification for the BMW 7 series
