Upgrades in Berlin

Hi all yet again!

Regarding upgrades (topic I'm usually interested in it seems :D ). Does Europcar usually offer upgrades? Why I'm asking is that I'm travelling to Berlin next month and was wondering if I should take a bit cheaper car from Europcar and hope for offer to upgrade or just go with Sixt and get a more probable upgrade? I currently have a reservation at Ku-Damm/Zoo for Sixt (LDAR), but the price is a bit steeper at the airport (need unlimited km's) and was wondering of taking a reservation for Europcar at TXL. How's the upgrades usually for Sixt, if I book a Fxxx, do I have a chance of getting a 5-series or so? Or, I guess it totally depends on the car situation at Europacenter/airport .. ? I'm looking for something more comfortable for a longer trip so would like to see something nice. :) :203:

Any opinions for something comfortable for a longer ride? :p

Thanks yet again. :60:

Hi,

first and most important: Always book what you want to drive! If you want to drive a BMW 5-series, than you have to book PDAR for 4-cylinder engines or LDAR for 6-cylinder engines (except the 525d).

Upgrades are possible, if the RSA want to give you an upgrade.

Little tip: If you book via Sixt.at you will get unlimited km's for nearly the same price.

Thanks for the info Kaveo! I checked it but it seemed to be the same price I get from Sixt.fi (Finland) pages. I guess my gold card is overriding the possible price difference.. or something. But okay, maybe I'll just keep my reservation at Europacenter for now and see if there happens to be any good offers somewhere.

Any knowledge about Europcar?

Edit:
Or did you mean that upgrades are possible also for Europcar?

You can't say in general that Sixt will give bigger or higher upgrades than Europcar.

@Sixt it is possible to do an upgrade by cash, but how much it is depends on the RSA. If you book FDMR at Sixt you will get one of the following cars:

Zitat

Audi A4 (1.8 TFSI, 2.0 TDI)

BMW 3er (316d, 318d, 320d, 330d, 335d, 316i, 320i, 328i,) - teilweise auch mit X-Drive (Allradantrieb)

BMW 3er GT (318d, 320d, 335i) - teilweise auch mit X-Drive (Allradantrieb)

MB C-Klasse (180, 200 CDI, 220 CDI)

If you book at TXL there is a high chance that you get what you paid---> No Upgrade, unless you have a status (Sorry Gold is the same as: No Status, even for Platinum the best use for the Card is as ICE Scratcher in the morning :107: )
TXL has a big fleet so no need for Sixt to give an Upgrade for free.

So you see if you want to drive an 5er BMW you have to book LDAR and hope to get one. But rember in LDAR are some other cars too the : Audi A6 and the Mercedes E250/350

Edit: Sure Europcar can give you an Upgrade if the class you booked is not avaliable. If you can do an Cash Upgrade (upsell) at Europcar as at Sixt----> I don't know
:203: oder im Ausland meist :205:

Ok ok, I was mainly looking for a paid upgrade, maybe what I would have wanted to ask was: If I book FDMR and make a request for upsell for Lxxx -> will the price be lower for the upgrade as for the direct booking? :) Maybe this goes too difficult for me.. have to just see the best price and go with that. :) Probably anyway going to go with Sixt, as still don't have the platinum card.. :p

Haha! Well, in Finland they don't even recognize the platinum card.. it's not in the list of cards for Sixt. :) See here:

How much it is: Depends mainly who the RSA sleept last night, if his morning :109: was good or not. ;) You can't say it in advance.

It can be cheaper but i allthough can be more expensive. And if the RSA is not willing to do an Upsell, bad for you.

Most important thing when doing an Upsell: It is like being on the bazaar  , never take the first offer allways beat the price down.

You can pre-Check how much is the difference betwenn F and L and note it. so then you know your limit .

Normally the tell the Upsell price per day.

I just checked the prices for LDAR on the finish Sixt page. :210:

As Kaveo said before, book what you want to drive to have the greatest chances for your desired car. BUT the price difference between FDMR and LDAR at TXL is 250€ per week without any login.. (since I don't know when and how long you will need your car, I checked for a week). So I would book FDMR and try to make an upsale, which should save you much money. Little risk with this strategy is, that they don't have spare cars in LDAR, so they can't offer you a bigger car. Then you have to accept the offered car and try to change over at a different station.

More risk, but also more potential of saving money is to book CPMR and try to Upsell at the station. It's up to you, how much risk you want to take. Lindor56 already said it: The range of an Upsell price differes heaviliy, depending on many factors. In my experience the booked category isn't the most important one, so it's only important, if an upsell isn't possible.

Hmm.. yeah, might be worth taking some risks as the prices are getting higher now. :) I'll see what makes the most sense, thanks!

Btw, not related to the upsell, but I have a reservation already and would like to change the time for that. If I do that, seems the price goes up by 80 euros.. Will they have a car for me already earlier in the day or only in the evening (when I had the original reservation)? Or well, I guess not if there's a lot of ppl coming to pick up a car?

How does the changing of car work? I could just drive to a station and ask to change for something else?

I would recommend you to call the Sixt reservation hotline and tell them that you will be there some hours earlier and that you do not want to change the reservation because of the new higher price. Usually, there will be a car for you some time earlier as well.

Yes, that's the easiest way to change a car. Just look around the car park of the station and ask for a certain car that you want to drive.
