I already checked the Sixt website and if I prepay, my total rental will be €100. I don't need a big car or for long... I just need it for a few days, and a small car.

So... Can someone confirm which card should I use? Maestro or the prepaid MasterCard credit card? Is there any information regarding this anywhere on the Sixt website?

if there is enough credit on the prepaid card... it should work, yes.
I guess when the rental station try's to authorize the payment, the provider (MasterCard) is asked for enough credit and confirms it - when there is enough credit.

btw. I have no experience with other rental stations then Hertz and Enterprise.
Thank you Chris. So you think as long as there is no Debit card or Prepaid card written on the card itself and that there are enough funds on it, I should have no problems?

if one card doesnt work, you can still use the other and they will try it.

I am not that rich to put at least 500€ on 2 cards at the same time. I am a student, as I already said. That's why I have to be sure which one to use and on which one to put the funds.

Oops, seems that Sixt changed conditions:

I'd try it, anyway. I don't think the rental agents know the difference. Technically it works. Besides, I successfully papayed with a Maestro card once.

I was going to use Maestro, and then this post confused me. They don't accept it anymore? If they don't accept it, I'll just use the MasterCard and prepay on the website and put 3x funds as my prepay on the card if they hold a deposit from it.

I used to rent a Mercedes E Class once with my MasterCard from NETELLER. This one is a prepaid card as well, but the didn't mention any problems at the station were i picked it up.
Never tried it at Sixt or Europcar with an LDAR car, so I don't know if they would accept one of these. I mean, how do they know it's a debit card anyway? As long as there is enough money on it to block...

Yes! Can you tell me at what company did you rent it at?

That was at Avis. :204:
And I also read in another forum that Sixt seems not to have any problems with Neteller cards as well. As long as the card is a "high print" (with stamped in letters) they seem to accept it. 8)

Thank you. I'll use the MasterCard then.

One more question, to confirm: How much does Sixt take for the deposit? 3x the rental price if I prepay? I read that somewhere on their website. How much does Avis take? Just so I know how much to load to my MasterCard.

Thanks!

Phew, that was almost two years ago, so let me check:

We booked an mercedes e-class back then (I think Avis calls this "Group F") for 3 days. Avis took ~180€ for the rent plus 100€ as "insurance money". But I don' know if they still run it that way. Of course the renting price increases with the numbers of days you want to rent the car.
With Sixt its a liitle bit more complicated because i never rented there with my Credit Card yet, because my real Credit Card is a "work in progress" right now thanks to my bank.
But if they charge the same as when I pay with my Maestro Card (aka "EC Card" in Germany), you need to have the money for the rent (lets say 150€) on the account plus 1.5 the charge of the rent money as insurance (in this case 225€). This would make 375€ total charge on your CC.
Back when I rented at Avis I charged the CC with 500€ to make shure that their would not be any problems with paying at the pick up station. 8)

Thanks, DragonMaster!

By the way, when you're paying with your credit card (real credit card) at a store, does it require you to enter a PIN? My MasterCard has a PIN, so will that be a problem when I use it at the rental company?

PIN is not really used that often in Germany.

have never seen someone at a rental pickup to put in the PIN.
Reason: there ist nothing to type :P

Okay. But your credit card also has a PIN number? You just never use it?

I am asking because I want to be sure that my MasterCard is the same as everyone elses... :)

Yes, our credit cards do have a PIN. But you will only have to use it at an ATM.

Credit Card companies in Germany are currently exchanging the cards towards a system WITH PIN.
therefore there will still be a lot of cards without PIN
