Best Equipment on C*-F* Class Cars

Apologies as I do not speak German!
For an upcoming one-week rental during the holidays, Sixt is the cheapest provider. Usually when in Germany I rent with Europcar through my company, but Europcar is 2X the price for my dates. I am more familiar with the Europcar fleet than the Sixt fleet. I suppose I have been lucky with upgrades from Europcar and usually am given an FDAR or PDAR on my I* reservations due to status.

In which of these classes am I most likely to receive a "well-equipped" car and what sorts of cars are in these classes? I am looking at CLMR, CDAR, CPMR, IDAR, IDMR, SDMR, SDAR, FDMR, and FDAR. (Yes, I am aware the "M" signifies manual shift and that is not an issue).

As most of the driving will be in the mountains it would be important to me to have heated seats/windscreen/steering wheel and nice headlights (Xenon or LED). All wheel drive would be nice but not required. There will only be two travelers so a larger vehicle is not really necessary.

Also, any advice on getting better rates with Sixt would be appreciated.

With exception of CLMR, nearly every car in the named classes will meet your trim level requirements. If space is not important, i would stick to CPMR. If you want space, choose SDMR.
If *A** classes are priced equal to *M**, i would choose *A**, because the chances for an upgrade are higher.

Also, FRA normally has many cars to choose from.

But, renting SDMR, SDAR, FDMR or FDAR will raise your chances for good headlights compared to the other classes. Of course there are some nice cars in C*** or I*** but even with CPMR there are known A-Classes, A3 or BMW 1 series without Xenon/LED. Within FDAR this chance should be much lower as the cars with automatic shifting are ususally equipped quite well concerning your wishes.

EDIT: The chance for allwheel-drive within your named classes are close to zero apart from FDMR/FDAR. As far as I know you would only be getting allwheel-drive if you have been "sidegraded" on the SUV-classes, even though not all SUVs have allwheel-drive. Maybe there are some lonely Audi A3 quattro, but chances should be low.

Just click on SDMR, SDAR, SWMR or SWAR. Especially SWMR or SWAR could offer nicely equipped Skoda Superb, even some with allwheel-drive. Furthermore, Volvo V60 are in SWMR. In SDMR there are some Audi A3 sedan, Mercedes CLA (sedan / Shooting brake).

It's funny how this thread is not being closed although it's obvious that this is a "crystal ball" thread

'You COULD get all wheel drive, nice headlights etc.'

Sure, also Erich Sixt himself might shake your hands after handing over the car keys at FRA :120:

Usually the chance for good equipment of the cars is increasing with the booking class and the price, obviously. To make SURE your car fits all your needs, you will have to book an upper-class SUV or at least LDAR/LWAR which often comes with quattro/x-drive.

There CAN be well equipped cars with LEDs and heated seats on C.... and there CAN be poorly equipped cars without LEDs and heated seats in P..../L.... Nobody can really predict that.

My apologies, I did not realize asking general questions about the types of vehicles or how they are equipped in the Sixt fleet was against the rules on this forum. Of course no one can say for certain what will be assigned at pickup, I know that. Here in the US, even within the same vehicle class, there are "better" and "worse" options with some vehicles having higher levels of equipment, so I wanted to have a better understanding of the different options within the Sixt fleet.

I'll report back if Mr. Sixt is at the counter when I arrive ;)

Don't worry, I share your oppinion (and the Mods obviously, too).

It's already been said... if you want to have your aimed specs in your rental, book LDAR. But I'm pretty sure sticking with CPMR is the best way in your situation. In case the offered car does not imply to you, you'll be able to upsell to a better vehicle.

If you install the Sixt-App on your phone and sign in w/ your account, you will most likely be able to choose a car 30 minutes before rental starts.

One follow up question for the Sixt experts:

Originally I made the booking for a pickup/dropoff at 12:00. I have had a change in travel plans and now need to pickup/dropoff at 08:00. When I tried to make the change on the Sixt website, it tried to re-price the reservation at the current rate which is much higher than when I booked. Is it possible to collect the car earlier without making the change in reservation? In the US this would not normally be a problem as the rental is charged on a 24h clock anyways but I'm not as familiar with the process here.

Did you prepay your reservation?

You MIGHT be lucky picking up the car w/o extra cost and bringing it back earlier, but i assume it will depend on the station.

You could also try to contact the social media team on facebook and ask them if it is possible to change the pick up time from 12 to 8 without changing the price of the reservation.

Thank you again to everyone for your answers! I was able to call the Sixt reservation hotline and they made the reservation change for me with no additional fees.

I was assigned a Mercedes C180 station wagon (petrol) by someone at the airport desk (thus disabling in-app vehicle selection). I wanted a vehicle with an actual trunk and preferably diesel, so I stopped by the very friendly Sixt desk (sorry, Erich Sixt was not working that day ;)), and was offered a very nice Jaguar XE diesel with about 10,000 km for my FDAR reservation. Only available upgrades were to 7-seat passenger vans. No prior damages and no smoking smells, so I was very happy. Great car and great service from Sixt!
