Really dissapointed in Sixt

  • I had a reservation for 28th of july and sixt canceled the reservation a day before while i had a vacation planned for the week. Their reason was that there were no cars available and could not do much about it. i asked about other location and they said they already checked but i dont think that is the truth. I am really furious. How could a big company like this treat customers like this. It’s unbelievable.

    Any advice?

  • What kind of advice are you expectíng here.
It unfortunately went wrong and while I feel with you, these things can happen once in a while.
At least they told you upfront...
Did you book any special car or smth. extra ordinary in terms of car make/model/class ?

just a regular FDAR. Like legal advice.

  • No way they could not find a suitable car in a large city like Cologne with how many branches? 6+?

You should really push them to get you on the road, you could accept a lower class car with a refund that should be negotiated.

When did you make the reservation?

i know it sounds really crazy. they said to me to try to rent at a another station. the only car he could give me was a opel corsa. i said no because i booked premium class vehicle. reservation was made on july the 29th

  • I would be furious too if they just cancel my reservation the day before - especially on a vacation. What location?

As mentioned above - insist on the confirmed reservation and if nothing can be done at the station, raise hell through customer service :P

  • I will write a email. thanks. on what basis they can't cancel a prepaid reservation?

With a prepaid reservation you already have a contract with Sixt. It's only possible to change it, if both parties agree (if you cancel it by yourself, you will have to pay for that). So if Sixt cancels it without your consent, they breached the contract and need to reimburse you (not only the already paid amount, but your extra costs to get a similar vehicle from another rental company). But you most likely will have to sue them, so I would try to persuade them to give you a proper car. Btw. giving legal advice is not allowed here, you will have to contact a lawyer for that.

  • Same thing happened to me the last weekend of June in Cologne Altstadt. I already booked in February for 25th till 28 of June. On Thursday I received a call that they didn't have a vehicle available because the one I booked was badly damaged. I told them I could also go to another station in Cologne or Düsseldorf if needed but the guy on the phone told me he already phoned them and there was nothing available in LDAR or higher......

  • had a great vacation thanks to europcar. booked a day before departure and told them what happened and received a volkswagen passat r line if europcar didn't help us there was no vacation so special thanks to europcar :122:

i don't recommend sixt to foreign renters

It's great to hear things worked out well with Europcar in the end! Would you please share what happened with Sixt, then?

Generally, though, even though it's good that Europcar managed to deliver, I'd be careful drawing the conclusion that Europcar is reliable and foreign renters should stay away from Sixt. The very same thing could have easily happened the other way around (although legally things would have been easier due to Europcar's terms and conditions). So don't put too much undue trust in Europcar either in the future and always be prepared for things potentially going wrong, especially during holiday season when companies are notoriously overbooked, e.g. by making backup reservations with other companies etc.

    Sixt is discriminating mainly dutch/belgian/french citizens by not letting them renting a car. There are a lot of reports of people randomly getting their reservation canceled without a justified reason. What Sixt is doing is illegal because they infringe the EU Geo Blocking Law aka Equal access to goods and services. Example;

    • For services provided in the traders' country of establishment (examples: hotel accommodations, sporting events, car rentals, ticket offices for music festivals or amusement parks): you must have the same access to these services as consumers from this country.

Example : You and your family have decided to visit an amusement park in Germany where reduced ticket prices are available for families. You have the right, like German families, to benefit from these reduced ticket prices.

The Geoblocking Regulation (EU) 2018/302 prohibits discrimination against consumers and, in

limited cases, against businesses, based on their nationality, place of residence or establishment

when they buy goods or services.

I am currently talking with a dutch lawyer specialised in EU law and want to see what the options are to stop this foolery.
